Visitor’s Guide to Placencia, Belize

To have the most fun in Belize, make sure that you travel light, but be sure that you bring what you need.

CLOTHING

Belize boasts a laid-back atmosphere, making casual summer attire along with a lightweight windbreaker ideal. If you intend to explore the jungle, be sure to pack long-sleeved shirts, pants, moisture-wicking socks, and sturdy hiking boots—these are wise choices. Additionally, don’t forget to bring a hat.

SNORKELING

While we encourage guests to bring their own snorkeling gear, we do provide equipment during our tours.

CURRENCY



The Belize dollar is pegged to the US dollar at a rate of 2 to 1, meaning you'll receive $2 Belize for every $1 US. US cash is the most practical option. All of your tours, meals, and resort purchases can be charged to major credit cards. Please note that individuals are not permitted to bring more than $10,000 US into the country, and it's advisable to ensure your credit card has no foreign transaction fees.

ARRIVAL

You have two options: either take a 25-minute flight from Belize City Airport to Placencia, where you'll be greeted and transported to the Green Parrot beach houses. (The complimentary Placencia Airport shuttle is available once your flight is booked through the resort. Please check for the cost and availability of domestic flights; we’d be happy to assist with your booking.)

Alternatively, we offer a shuttle van that can pick you up at Belize City Airport, allowing you to enjoy a scenic drive through the mountains and farmland.

EQUIPMENT

Binoculars are essential in this stunning and varied country. A flashlight with fresh batteries is also advisable, as the roads and beaches lack lighting at night. Don't forget to pack sunblock and insect repellent, especially if you're venturing into the jungle.

TIME ZONE

Belize observes Central Standard Time (CST) throughout the year.

SCUBA DIVING

While many divers opt to bring their own gear, equipment is readily available on tours.

HEALTHCARE

The nearest hospital is located in Dangriga, approximately an hour away. In Placencia, there is an ambulance for emergency transport, and a part-time doctor is on-site. Please note that pharmacy options in this area are limited, so remember to bring your medications!

A mini-Gift shop is on property where you can purchase sunblock and bug spray.

No immunizations are required for travel to Belize.

TRIP INSURANCE

We do not offer trip insurance.

WHAT IS NEARBY?

Green Parrot is surrounded by a variety of restaurants and local bars. There is a gym in the vicinity, as well as a bowling alley within walking distance. Additionally, miniature golf is available nearby.
