When we announced our plan to purchase this wonderful resort in Belize, the most common question we were asked by family and friends was, “Why Belize?”
In a nutshell, we felt that Belize is the “Hidden jewel of the Caribbean.” Belize enjoys a beautiful tropical landscape, breathtaking views of the Caribbean, jungle and mountains, a reef that you must see to appreciate, a climate that is hardly ever disappointing, and a wealth of fascinating Mayan history and ruins left behind intact. Another plus is Belize’s close proximity to many beautiful North and South American gateways. Also, English is the main language, but you will also hear Spanish, Mayan and other languages spoken.
In the town of Placencia, there are several small gift shops, a post office and some night life. A trip to nearby Seine Bight, a traditional Garifuna village a few miles north of Placencia, provides a chance to sample Garifuna cooking and music(including traditional drumming and modern Punta Rock). The Mayan Ruins of NimLi Punit andLubaantun are a nice day trip, and the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Preserve and Rainforest are only 30 minutes away from the Green Parrot.
When you experience the mystery and beauty of the cave of Belize, you disappear into the underworld, floating on inner tubes past side openings that filter light through the mist as you swirl around stalagmites jutting from the river and stalactites looming from above. Float past underground waterfalls then perhaps into a crystal cathedral, a spiritual center to the Maya civilization.
Belize is a leader in environmental protection with 40 percent of the land mass protected, the highest percentage in the world! Nowhere else in the world can you experience more intriguing and diverse habitats. The Belize neo-tropical rainforest and marine environments support the greatest density of species to be found in the earth’s biosphere. We were a “Green” environment long before in became a popular consideration.
We also have great weather and our Caribbean Sea is 80 degrees!
Our average annual land temperature is 88 degrees.
Belize is a photographers and artists haven!
In addition to the spectacular scenery, the flora and fauna are as fascinating as they are beautiful.
